Itinerary

This ride takes us back to the fourteenth century as we explore historic villages in south Kathmandu Valley. After an early breakfast in Kathmandu, we wind our way through the back alleys of the old city, and head south to Bungamati, renowned for its Rato Macchendranath temple and traditional Newari architecture. We then descend to the lower village, Khokana, stopping at the temple of Shekali Mai, a Valley nature goddess, to pray for good balance on the trails ahead. After returning uphill to Bungmati, the ride continues south, climbing on jeep track through lush forests to the village of Champi, with its sweeping views of the southwestern corner of Kathmandu Valley. A combination of a downhill push and an uphill carry through rice fields is required to reach picturesque Chapagaon village. The famous Vajra Barahii temples are just south of town. They are sadly neglected but still have beautiful woodcarvings of Krishna and Narayan. From Chapagaon we ride on an exciting jeep track, more like a roller coaster ride to the village of Badegaon. Here we pick up the paved but quiet Godavari road, which takes us back to Kathmandu.
